Inline Tempprobe - The Fast Way

When you watercool, and overclock, your machine, you usually want to know the various temps of your heatsources. Your CPU, your systemtemp, your graphicscard-temperature and preferably the temp of your water. You don't need it, but it's handy and we are all handymen (and women), aren't we?

Today we are going to make a temperatureprobe that probes the water in your inline watercooling system. If you use a reservoir it will be alot easier to just stick the probe into the water in the reservoir. Not all of us use reservoirs. In small systems with close fits we sometimes need to use an inline system.

The idea is easy, you can probably make one of these by just drilling into your hose and siliconize it up, but that would be way to getto, and since we live in Norway and do modding the Norwegian way, we slam the dough in the table and buy some hoseconnectors. I needed a transmission between 3/8" and 1/2" since my waterblock use 3/8" and my Eheim pump use 1/2". Why not use this transmission to probe the water?

Parts needed

  • 1x 3/8" Hose Connector/Nipple Fitting
  • 1x 1/2" Hose Connector/Nipple Fitting
  • 1x Standard Tempprobe (Asus and Abit usually delivers these with their motherboards)
  • 1x Middlefitting (Not sure what you call it
  • 1x Dremel Multi
  • 1x Wrench to hold the middlefitting in place while drilling

Here you can see all the parts. The 3/8" Hose connector is siliconised and screwed into the middlefitting. You see the 1/2" hose connector laying there too.
